In a big, blue, beautiful undersea world, the mermaid princess Ariel longs to explore a world that is so different than her own: the world on land. When she finds out that the Sea Witch Ursula might be able to grant her wish, she has to take the biggest risk of her life so far. Is she willing to give up her voice for the chance of a new life above the sea? Follow her journey along with her pals Flounder the fish, Sebastian, her crustaceous care taker, and her flying friend Scuttle to find out just how powerful fighting for your dreams can be!
Thrive Arts Academy is thrilled to be putting on it’s second annual spring production, The Little Mermaid Jr. Our cast is full of amazing and talented students, ranging from age 6 to 18 years old.

Meet Our Creative Team
Kayla K. Johnston is thrilled to be directing her second production at Thrive Arts Academy! She is a performing artist, with experience in theatre, dance, film, and music. She has had extensive training in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Contemporary dance styles. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from William Jessup University with a B.A. in Creative Arts: Theatre, where she was honored to play many leading roles in their university productions like Laurey Williams in OKLAHOMA!, Jo March in LITTLE WOMEN, and Judy Haynes in WHITE CHRISTMAS, along with others. She most recently has worked with the Sacramento Theatre Company playing Annelle in STEEL MAGNOLIAS. She now runs the Dance and Theatre division of Thrive Arts Academy, where she teaches, choreographs, and directs productions. She also leads worship every weekend as a part of the staff at Bayside Church. Kayla believes that the arts are just an extension of who we are as human beings, allowing us to communicate just how beautiful all aspects of life are, with hope placed at the center of our purpose.
Kimmy Spriggs is an actress, dancer, and vocalist who has spent years using her passions and skills to teach students of all ages. A native of Los Angeles, she recently relocated to Sacramento to be a full time student at the Thrive School of Leadership, where she got her internship with Thrive Arts Academy. With twenty years of experience in the arts, she has been able to work in theatre, film, television, and as a worship leader. Kimmy began choreographing and teaching dance at the age of thirteen, and was hired to help run a high school theatre department at the age of eighteen. Some of her more prominent roles include Abigail Williams in THE CRUCIBLE, Annie Sullivan in THE MIRACLE WORKER, Kim McAfee in BYE BYE BIRDIE, and work in the upcoming Brad Furman film, City of Lies. Her favorite Production credits include RUMORS (Director), CABARET (Choreographer/ Assistant Director), and LORD OF THE FLIES (Director). She is so excited to have found a place like Thrive Arts Academy where she can combine her passion for the Arts with her call to ministry.
Emily Mankarios is a graduate of William Jessup University, where she received a B.A. in Music: Vocal Performance. She had the pleasure to perform in the elite ensemble, Crossroads, as well as lead in the University Choir and Orchestra as second soprano section leader. Since graduating, Emily has used her extensive training in piano and the voice in a variety of ways. She has led worship at various churches, conferences, and retreats, but has developed a specific passion for teaching. Emily has been a piano teacher and vocal coach for the past 5 years. She teaches private lessons at Thrive Arts Academy and the Professional Voice, and coaches worship team vocalists around the state with Nuemann Music and at various conferences. Emily had the privilege to direct and conduct TAA’s Christmas Children’s Choir these past two years, as well as Music Direct for TAA’s first musical, PETER PAN JR. She is honored to continue with THE LITTLE MERMAID JR, cultivating a love for music and the arts among such talented students.
Amy Petersen is excited to choreograph her first production with Thrive Arts Academy! Amy earned her B.A. in Dance, and minor in business at San Jose State University, where she was a part of University Dance Theater and Company One. After college Amy pursued her professional career in New York City. She performed in such venues as Madison Square Garden, The Manhattan Center, and the Kings Theater with the Hillsong Dance Company. Amy also had the opportunity to dance for the Emma Elliot Dance Company; dedicated to glorifying God through their work. While in NYC she quickly fell in love with teaching inner city children at Greenhouse Arts Center in Harlem, a dance school designed to create future leaders and talented artists. Amy has had the opportunity to teach dance in countries such as Mexico and Cuba! She recently moved back to the west coast and has loved working with TAA and Bayside Church. She has a strong sense of adventure, loves nature, and loves her family. Amy believes the arts are a powerful tool to share the gospel, shape culture, bring hope, and communicate beauty truth and goodness.
Erin Brunswick is a worship leader at Bayside Church, who is making a return to the artistic world of theatrical production! One of her favorite roles was portraying Kala in a production of TARZAN in Colorado. She is excited to embark on a new journey, learning the talents it takes to run the production side of the theatre. After many years at Bayside church, she is honored to be a part of the Thrive Arts Academy team!
